$07f|1-KILLING ME SOFTLY WITH THEIR SONG
BY DAVE DIAMOND OF THE INVADERS
How can you miss the song that was number 1 for over 5 weeks by the
fugees called killing me softly. Strangly before the song was even
released by the fu-gees i played the orchestral version some days before
and i must say that when i first heard the remake of roberts flaks
original i almost died! Listen to the orchestral version and compare
them, now i haven`t heard the roberta flak version (the VERY first
version) but this song is supposed to be about love and thr tones are
supposed to be very romantic and relaxing and at the same time
emotional, the current version has completly ruined this wonderfull song
by adding rap! along with some terrible samples and a voice that would
embarrass even margarita pracatan from the clive james tv show.
The fugees recently toured in harlem, new york in which a riot
started....must have been because of their terrible singing!!
Another example of bad re-makes can be found from take thats debut
single could it be magic, barry manilow sang the original and was again
very romantic and sensual but was later turned into a pop track by some
very un-cool men.
I think comedian lenny henry said it best when he quipped that today all
you need to do is to put a beat behind a old song and it`s a hit so you
would end up with BOOM,YEAH,BOOM,YEAH,BOOM,YEAH...who do you think you
are kidding mr hitler!
Its rubbish..dont buy that crap!
$ff0[The Fugees stole Enya's music for their track "Ready Or Not" so I'm not
exactly a fan of theirs either. Give me Steve Vai forcing a guitar
through several octaves in 30ms anyday! Kei]
